Larry Clark | CEO & President
What happens when you're a 23 year old - thrill seeking - third generation chef? You start your own catering company!
Larry founded Made From Scratch in 1983, and has worked hard to make it the all encompassing catering company it is today, but he always saves time for adventures.
After receiving his scuba certification over 20 years ago, Larry enjoys spending time underwater with sharks, stingrays and barracudas any chance he gets. Since Ohio isn’t known for its vast amount of reefs and aquatic animals, he enjoys traveling to the Caribbean for its scenic underwater view.
Larry also enjoys traveling to the beautiful scenic lands of Montana every year where he participates in a yearly "round-up" of life long friends and cohorts on a trail ride. He feels that enjoying the outdoors, riding horses and hanging with the guys creates true camaraderie and offers to strengthen the mind during this week long trip.
A daily fair-weather adventure for Larry is cruising around on his Honda Goldwing. His two daughters, Ceci and Cozy, often join him for the ride and have proven to be as adventurous as their father.
Always thinking of new ways to make Made From Scratch more unique, Larry recently acquired several honey bee apiaries. He and his daughters spent an entire Saturday removing the honey from the combs and were very pleased to recover 70 pounds! The fresh honey is now being used in many Made From Scratch recipes.
Obviously, being the President of the top catering company in Central Ohio, there isn't any food that Larry doesn't like. However, when it comes to his favorite thing to eat....without hesitation, Larry says its his mother's German Chocolate Cake that she bakes for his birthday.
Tom Nelson | Executive Chef
Tom’s cooking career began, much like others, in the kitchen with his Grandmother. After graduating with honors from The Culinary School at Hocking College, Tom went on to work at three 4 Star Hotels, before landing at Made From Scratch Catering. Tom takes the company name to heart and, with his team, strives to make everything from sauces to bread from scratch.
Although there isn't anything that Tom doesn't enjoy cooking, his favorite creations from the Made From Scratch kitchen are the Watermelon Tartare Spoon and the Roasted Marinated Pacific Salmon. Tom feels the success of these dishes depend on the freshest produce and seafood, making them even more enticing.
When not working and creating delicious entrees and desserts, Tom enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He and his wife recently welcomed their first child, Henry to their family. Whether Tom is visiting friends in the city or spending a weekend with his family by the lake, food is always an element.
Tom doesn’t get the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors as much as he would like to, but tries to bring the wilderness inside by creating great woodwork pieces. Even though he loves the kitchen... He sometimes spends more time in his woodshop then in his kitchen.
Selena Browning | Director of Catering
Working in her parent's restaurant when she was nine, and waiting tables while she earned her degree from Ohio State, groomed Selena for success in the hospitality industry. She enjoys planning events and the opportunity to share in the special moments of others.
Having a mother who is Thai explains Selena's love for Thailand, where she enjoys visiting her parents when she can. Selena claims that the country offers the most beautiful beaches and kindest people.
Enjoying an eclectic choice of food from all over the world has allowed Selena to bring more international ideas to Made From Scratch. Her favorite menu items? Anything simple and delicious that she can offer to her clients. Although Selena claims that she can order take-out better than anyone - her homemade Chicken Ala King is "pretty darn good."
Selena enjoys riding her bike and is actually training for her first Pelotonia bike ride this fall. When she is not working, Selena enjoys spending time with her many friends, family, nieces, nephews and her fur-children, Jack Russell, Daisy and cat Ophelia.
Shelley Hart | Corporate Controller
Shelley joined the Made From Scratch team in 2012 and she has already taken "control" of our Controlling and Accounting department. Shelley is a great fit to our team--it's as if she's been here for years.
Shelley prides herself on being uber organized (have you ever met a Controller who wasn't organized?) and has past Sales experience in the catering industry, which is a bonus! We are all pretty sure that if you looked up "hard-working" in the dictionary, you'd see a picture of Shelley Hart.
Shelley is always up for an adventure; whether she's traveling to Africa, white-water rafting, or skydiving, you can count her in. She's a total animal lover--don't ask her how many pets she has. (But if you did ask, you'd probably receive an answer like "oooh....only a few!" ...wink wink).
Carol Chivington | Senior Event Consultant
Carol likes a challenge! As an Event Consultant with Made From Scratch for 20 years, she has had the privilege of planning some of the largest , most challenging events that Made From Scratch Catering has produced.
Carol likes to stay current with the ever changing food and decor trends by networking with other event professional at ISES (International Special Events Society) and WPC (Wedding Professionals of Columbus). Carol is also proud to say that she serves as Treasurer of the Ohio Chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding, a non-profit organization providing weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances.
Relaxing time for Carol consists of hiking, gardening and tending to her "pack" of three mischievous Terriers. Travel is also a passion which she feels has contributed to her career by providing inspiration for event theme development and authentic menu design. Her adventures in Spain, Italy, Greece, France and Turkey have influenced her approach to making an event a unique experience.
Carol values the many clients that have grown to become personal friends through the process of planning events together and always loves the opportunity to entertain in her own home.
When Carol is not planning events, she loves to spend time with her grand-daughter, Grace, who just turned a year old in March!
Lauren Dillon | Event Consultant
One thing is certain--Lauren loves to entertain! Needless to say, she's made for this industry. Some of her favorite memories have been made sharing great food, wine and laughs with her closest family and friends.
When she isn't planning fabulous events at Made From Scratch, the Ohio native can be found spending time at her family's 33-acre property on Nolin Lake in
Kentucky--the site for her 2012 nuptials! Her favorite hobbies include snow skiing, watching Ohio State football, and hanging out at home with her husband, John, and their cats, Betsy Beans and Lucy Yittles.
Leveraging her experience in the food and beverage industry with her passion for design (she once owned her own design company!), Lauren joined the Made From Scratch team in 2012. Her incredible "infectious" enthusiasm and experience with full-
service event planning made her a fantastic addition to our innovative sales team.
Lauren loves developing unique event experiences by tailoring the menu, linen and floral design to celebrate each individual personality. It is no surprise that when she periodically wanders back to our expansive warehouse, filled with design supplies, we can hear her exclaiming to the world "ooooooh I LOVE this!".
Emily Nunn|Event Consultant
Food is Emily’s passion. From her early days in the pool concession stand, to her Nutrition and Dietetics studies at Miami University, to putting perfect menus together for 1000 person galas, it’s been her life for over 15 years. In her work and personal life she loves preparing, enjoying, and talking about great food whenever possible. Obviously this makes her an excellent fit with the high standards and delicious offerings at Made From Scratch!
Emily joins the MFS team with extensive experience in catering sales, business development, and venue management, having been a vital team member of some of Columbus’s leading hospitality organizations. She is a board member of the Columbus chapter of ILEA (International Live Events Association) and is dedicated to bettering her own skills and the hospitality industry through continual education and relationship building.
Emily is a true city girl and loves spending time in her Short North neighborhood. She enjoys exploring the beautiful parks, great restaurants and bars, and constant new additions to downtown Columbus. She is an active yogi and spends as much time as she can at her studio practicing her handstands and other balancing poses.
Kelley Belman| Delivery Specialist, Service Coordinator and Office Manager
Kelley started her journey with Made From Scratch in January 2013, as a Hospitality intern for The Ohio State University. Right before graduation, Kelley was offered a full-time position with Made From Scratch, where she took on the role of Delivery Specialist and Service Coordinator. Kelley is involved in most day to day activities at Made From Scratch and ensures everything is running smoothly.
Recently married to her high school sweetheart Kyle, their wedding was catered and designed by the team from Made From Scratch and was recently featured in Columbus Weddings Magazine. In their spare time, the newlyweds love to try new restaurants, listening to music, spending time with family and friends and traveling anywhere they can!
